Drum & Dance

Chant & Sing

Pray & Play!

You are invited to a sacred circle full of fun and intention where we will drum, dance, chant, pray and play together. The drums support the dance, the dance inspires the chant, the chant leads us in to prayer … and it's all a way to PLAY together! The weaving of the music invites in much magic!

This is a circle where we move from a place of essence. Invite in prayers, release that which holds you back, be silly and playful, step into the fullness of who you Really are. We honor the sacred in all of life and offer expression from a place of deep respect and intention.

The circle will be facilitated by Katy Gaughan, a member of the Inspiration community, and drum circle facilitator and fire circle instigator with her organization Music Heals Us Drum Circles. www.musicheals.us

Drums and percussion provided or bring your own.

This is a family-friendly circle and we ask that parents supervise small children.

Weather permitting, we will meet around the fire or in the new outdoor classroom.

Donations gratefully accepted.

The Circle of Peace

by Joe Campanella

I am drumming, and others join in. I feel their willingness, their listening, and their hearts beginning to open. The fire is compelling, always transforming the images of those moving around it in some mysterious, primal and sacred way. The dancers fall into the spiral created by circling the fire’s energy of transformation. The drums resonating rhythms reach deeper into the bodies of the dancers. They move downward and inward in relation to the fire’s unrelenting upward release. As the energy of the drums and the dancers and the fire builds, each of us begins to fall into trance, moving beyond the confining stories of small separate self and into our hearts. This is the magic and beauty of the Fire Dance.

There is a sense that each person comes with a deep knowing that being in community in this setting is a primal purification ritual. Held by the circle we can be witnessed and move our bodies and voices to release and transform the energetic blocks within us. Yes, we could sit in meditation and dissolve these blocks through insight and stillness. But this is the path of ecstasy… Yeeee! Howuuuu! This is ancient and satisfying and it works. What a joy to move towards opening our hearts by being close to the earth, to see the sky at night and to celebrate our humanity in a way that so deeply connects us to ancient and sacred ways.

I love to see how each person comes to this Circle of Peace. There is an instinctive knowing that this is a magic and sacred ritual gathering. There is permission here to open to one’s fantasy in a loving context, to be the tigress, or siren, warrior, shaman, sorceress, and animals or all kinds. Archetypal energies of all kinds appear, and all is moving.

And the fire is constant as the energy of transformation. In one sense each of us relates to this fire as we circle in the same way we relate to death, transformation and rebirth… and the heart of the drum’s beat goes on. There is a beauty in this continuous motion and sound that speaks to each of us about how special and fleeting this dance of our lives really is. No wonder we naturally move toward our hearts.

We have also done Sufi dances where we hold hands and step and chant while looking first into our hearts and then to heaven. This is an intentional pattern that overloads the conscious mind and sends us right into our hearts. Wow… it was amazing to see a whole circle chanting and stepping become so open and present that waves of energy were visibly cascading through them. They were clear channels for Spirit!

There were some children too, a group of young boys about eleven or twelve years old who did not know what to make of this and were giggling continuously as a way to release the large amounts of energy we were generating. Eventually they joined the dance. I really loved that they came. Kids and elders are welcomed!

The Fire Dance is a unique form. It is both ritual and entertainment where we are the magic makers and the ones receiving.
