Making a DifferenceDeacon of Animal Collective and Music Fans Making a Difference in Mali, Africa
Joshua Dibb, aka Deacon of music group Animal Collective, is going to Africa because he has been invited to play at a musical festival in Mali in the middle of the Sahara Desert http://www.festival-au-desert.org/. He’s decided to combine his trip with an effort to raise awareness and funds to end slavery of black Tuareg tribe members. This is a meaningful project to end slavery by bringing economic development and education to the region. Deacon has started an amazing project to raise at least $25,000 or more to be given directly to these efforts when he goes to Africa for the festival in January. TEMEDT is the Mali organization that these funds will be donated to. They will use it to create a law that abolishes slavery of the black Tuareg people, set up legal support services for them, create economic development in black Tuareg communities, and establish educational possibilities. This is a 21st Century anti-slavery movement. All Ashoka projects are cutting-edge social entrepreneurs, using innovative approaches to create systemic change. http://www.ashoka.org/ Africa is a continent ravaged by Aids, disease, civil war, genocide, poverty and hunger. This project is an opportunity to celebrate and enhance the beauty and gifts of Africa, and to bring healing internally and with the world. Deacon is eager to bring music and Animal Collective fans into this healing mix. Please click on the donate button. Your contribution is totally tax deductible. We can make a difference!
